IIT Delhi and DTU are not close competitors on paper — IIT Delhi is a centrally-funded Institute of National Importance ranked NIRF Engineering #2, admitting via the much more selective JEE Advanced, while DTU is a Delhi NCT state university ranked #30, admitting via JEE Main through JAC Delhi. IIT Delhi's placement average (₹25.9 LPA) and brand recognition are substantially higher. DTU remains a strong, more accessible option for students who don't clear JEE Advanced, at a fraction of the fees for comparable core-engineering outcomes.

IIT Delhi admission requires JEE Advanced, which itself requires first qualifying JEE Main and ranking within the top roughly 2.5 lakh candidates nationally to become eligible to sit for JEE Advanced. JEE Main alone is not sufficient for any IIT — this is the single biggest difference between IIT Delhi and Delhi NCT institutions like DTU or NSUT, which admit through JEE Main only.
